Facilities: Environmental Issues
Ramapo College is committed to improving its recycling activities. There are recycling cabinets, containers or bins located in every building on campus. Each office has a special container for paper. Take the time to locate the recycling container nearest you.
This is what our campus needs to recycle:

- Metals: Aluminum food and beverage cans, steel or tin food or beverage cans
- Plastics: Milk & Water jugs. soda bottles, all color soap & detergent bottles.
- Paper: All paper (except where stated below)
The following items are examples of items that belong in the trash, not in recycling containers:
- Ceramics (mugs, etc.), chemical bottles, paint or solvent cans, aerosol cans, plastic Trash bags, bottle caps, Plastic wrap, wrapping paper, any plastic - cardboard - paper food containers, light bulbs

Community and Worker Right to Know Compliance
The New Jersey Community and Worker Right to Know Act became effective on August 29, 1984. The underlying philosophy of the act is to provide information to individuals and local government agencies about the potential risks posed by hazardous substances in the workplace and the surrounding community.
The Office of Facilities is the Ramapo College depository for all right to know information and materials.
This information comes in three basic forms: Hazardous Substance Fact Sheets (HSFS), containing information about chemicals identified as hazardous. Manufacturers Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) containing information about a product that may, or may not, contain one or more chemicals identified as hazardous. Finally, the Annual Workplace Survey contains a list of all products or chemicals stored or used in each building on campus.
Any one of these items are available upon request. If you are requesting a HSFS, the chemical name or Chemical Abstract Substance number (CAS) will be required. Requests for MSDS should include the product and, if possible, manufacturer.
You may request any Right to Know information by e-mail Fred Goddard at fgoddard@Ramapo.edu

Energy Savings
The office of Facilities has taken many steps toward energy reduction while maintaining the services necessary for the College community.
The current example of this are the two Fuel Cells that the College has installed. Fuel Cell #1 came "on line" in April 2000, supplying 80% of the electricity for Bischoff Hall and the Parking Lot lighting. Fuel Cell #2 went on line in December 2000 and supplies the Telecommunications Center and the Center for Computing and Information Systems.
Fuel Cells convert hydrogen from natural gas into electricity with water as the only byproduct. The water byproduct is used for heat, drinking water and domestic purposes such as showering and laundering.

Other recent energy saving steps taken by Ramapo College include:
- energy efficient lighting
- reduced consumption showerheads and bathroom fixtures
- alternate fuel vehicles
