DAC Archived Reports: March 2007
Ombudsperson
The Diversity Action Committee and the Minority Faculty and Staff Association, after 8 weeks of deliberations, sent a proposal for an ombudsperson position to President Mercer. The proposal is based on months of research, including the Campus Climate Survey.
DAC Co-Chair
Ruma Sen will serve as DAC co-chair this Fall '07. Edna Negron, who has served for three years, will roll-off. The idea is to stagger co-chair terms for continuity. Kay Fowler will stay on one more year. The next transition period will be Spring 2008.
Dangerous Discussions
Ruma Sen presented "Global Perspectives in the Classroom" on March 21 and Kay Fowler on "Death and Grief in the Classroom" on March 28. On April 2, Christine Komorowksi-McCohnell will present April 2 Dangerous Discussion on "Disability in the Classroom."
DAC co- sponsored, "Beyond Beats and Rhymes" March 29.
DAC/Cahill Center
The DAC and Cahill Center hosted a Cahill Advisory Board workshop on Diversity in the workplace. The DAC conducted a workshop with Cahill advisory members on diversity practices in the business world and how best to prepare students. Follow-up is expected in the fall.
Religion
The DAC agreed to pursue more issues revolving religion and diversity next semester. This might be included in Dangerous Discussions or in the Ramapo Lecture Series.
Student Leaders meeting
Marli Creese will be calling a Spring meeting of campus leaders in April to discuss diversity items. This is a follow to last semester's inaugural meeting.
