The DAC also tentatively scheduled a retreat for Jan. 10 to discuss the ombudsperson action item. Shirley Knight will lead a team of librarians who will research information and trends on this post across other institutions. The DAC plans to invite representatives Minority Faculty Staff Association and Human Resources to participate in the discussion over winter break. Pat Chang will help us connect with the Montclair ombudsperson.
In other matters, the DAC Co-Chairs Kay Fowler and Edna Negron met on Nov. 1 with Martha Ecker, Babs Varano and Sue Zhang to discuss measures for the action items. The subcommittees have been working on ways to measure progress. Fowler and Negron will be editing the grids for consistent language and posting online in November.
The DAC also welcomed Chief Vincent Markowski. He gave an update on the latest security training initiatives and talked about how his office documents incidents. He will provide details of incident reporting to the Policies Subcommittee. He will also serve as a liaison between the External Relations Committee and Mahwah police chief.
The DAC now has a dedicated public space near the Women’s Center and we will post latest developments there in addition to updating the Web site.
The DAC sent a letter to the Ramapo News editor supporting a Nov. 7 anti-hate rally, initiated by students angered by two bias incidents that occurred on campus.
DAC Student Rep, Marlie Creese, will set up a meeting on Nov. 8 between students and DAC co-chairs to discuss ways to work together on action items and other diversity initiatives.
