The Achievements page on Ramapo College's Web site has been renamed Campus Connection.  This new format will still provide updates of accomplishments by faculty, staff and students and also offer an opportunity to include photographs.  In addition, Campus Connection will keep readers apprised of new staff, promotions, reclassifications and retirements.

COLLEGE NEWS

The Department of Marketing and Communications received an Award of Merit for “What Makes Ramapo?” in The 24th Annual Admissions Advertising Awards. The department also received the Franklin Award of Excellence from the Graphic Arts Association for the “Viewbook.”

A paper, "Teaching Your Colleagues and Community About Adults Who Are Deaf," by Nancy Carr (Office of Specialized Services); Dr. Greg Long, Northern Illinois University; Theresa Johnson, Texas Department of Education and Amy Hebert, University of Arkansas was published by the U.S. Office of Special Education in a publication "Putting the Pieces Together." Carr also presented at the annual Disability Matters conference hosted by KPMG in April. This event was telecast nationally. (photo left)

Photo: Brian HughesA documentary by Brian Hughes (CA) about military chaplains was discussed in an article, “Jesus Killed Mohammed,” published in the May 2009 issue of “Harper's” magazine. Ben Neill (CA) will perform on his self-designed instrument, the mutantrumpet, with the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots at the New Interfaces for Musical Expression Conference that will be held June 4 through 6 at Carnegie Mellon University. Neill also will perform with video artist Bill Jones at the Ingenuity Festival in Cleveland, OH, July 10 through 12. “911-911- A Tale of Two Cities,” a film by Mel Chin with original music by Neill, was screened at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City in April. Photo: Steve PerryDean Steve Perry (photo right) reports that two CA students, Andrew Martins and Karen Rivera, completed internships this semester at the “New York Daily News.” Each has written three published articles for the newspaper, the fifth largest in the country.

Mike Ricciardi (Athletics) notes that Ramapo College’s Dance Team traveled to Daytona, Florida to compete in the National Dance Association Championships and finished second in their division and won an award for most creative choreography. Ramapo alumna Michelle Fernandez coaches the team.

SAVE THE DATE

President Peter P. Mercer invites Ramapo College faculty and staff to attend the annual Picnic at the Pavilion, which will be held rain or shine Thursday, May 21, from 2:30 to 5:15 p.m.

The event will include music, volleyball, a 50/50 raffle*, prizes, food, beverages and additional activities. Raffle tickets cost $2 for one ticket, $5 for three tickets and $10 for seven tickets. Tickets may be pre-purchased from Jill Brown or Nancy Boone in Human Resources.

* An extra raffle ticket will be given to those who wear Ramapo College gear to the picnic. Those who purchase $10 worth of tickets prior to May 20, and who also make a food donation to the Center for Food Action, will receive an extra 50/50 raffle ticket. Food donations must be brought to Jill or Nancy when purchasing $10 worth of tickets and not to Picnic at the Pavilion.
