The Achievements page on Ramapo College's Web site has been renamed Campus Connection.  This new format will still provide updates of accomplishments by faculty, staff and students and also offer an opportunity to include photographs.  In addition, Campus Connection will keep readers apprised of new staff, promotions, reclassifications and retirements.

COLLEGE NEWS

The First Year Experience Office and the Academic Advisement Center have merged. The new name is the Center for Academic Advising and First Year Experience (CAAFYE). Daniel Jean has been named director of CAAFYE. The Center is located in D-207 and the telephone number is (201) 684-7441.

Photo: Rosetta D’Angelo"Resisting Bodies: Narratives of Italian Partisan Women," a book by Rosetta D’Angelo (AIS) will be recognized March 2 at the House of Memory and History in Rome. The event will be sponsored by the Italian Federation of Partisans and the Association of Italian Partisans and will be held at the American Academy in Rome. Attending will be representatives from the University of Rome and the American Embassy.

Photo: David Lewis-ColmanDavid Lewis-Colman (SSHS) was a guest on the WBAI radio program, "Building Bridges: Your Community and Labor Report," hosted by Mimi Rosenberg and Ken Nash. The program aired January 26. He was interviewed about his book, "Race Against Liberalism: Black Workers and the UAW in Detroit." Photo: Alexandre OlbrechtAlexandre Olbrecht (ASB) published "Do Academically Deficient Scholarship Athletes Earn Higher Wages Subsequent to Graduation?" in the "Economics of Education Review." This paper is a follow-up to a previous one cited in "Atlantic Monthly Magazine," "Businessweek Online" and other publications. A second paper, "What Are the Monetary Effects of Education in the Market For Major League Baseball Players" published in the "Journal of Business & Economics Photo: Trent SchroyerResearch," was co-authored with alumnus and former student trustee Steven Bloom ‘08.

A book by Trent Schroyer (SSHS), "Beyond Western Economics: Remembering Other Economic Cultures" will be published in May. Also that month a review of "The Rivers North of the Future: The Testament of Ivan Illich" will be published in "Philosophy & Social Criticism 35(4)." An article, "Gandhi's Vision for Spiritual Regeneration" will be included in "In Socially Engaged Religion" edited by Siddhartha and published by Meeting Rivers Press. The professor is currently teaching in the College’s study abroad program at the Fireflies Ashram in Bangalore, India. He also is working on a book about transformative learning that records social and cultural transformations in India.

STUDENT AND ALUMNI NEWS

Chelle-Lou "Ling" Almirante was a contestant in the Miss Philippines Pageant 2009 held January at Rutgers University, Newark.

Marta Bautis (CA) reports that a documentary film done by students last semester in "Directing the Documentary" will be screened at the Seventh Annual Garden State Film Festival in Asbury Park April 2 through 5. For a complete schedule of screenings, log on to www.gsff.org.

Kelly Dolak and Pat Keeton (both CA) report that 11 Communication Arts students have had their papers accepted to the Undergraduate Poster Session at the annual Eastern Communication Association conference. Of the more than 200 papers submitted, about 50 were accepted for presentation in the poster session. The convention will be held April 23 through 26 in Philadelphia.
