COLLEGE RECOGNITION

Ramapo College of New Jersey was listed in the February 2007 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine as among the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges."  The ranking process places an emphasis on strong academics, as well as great value, with academic quality carrying more weight than cost.  Kiplinger’s looked at more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities in the country, using measures including the percentage of freshmen scoring 600 or higher on the verbal and math components of the SAT, student/faculty ratio and graduation rates.  This is the second year in a row that Ramapo College received the designation.

The Anisfield School of Business’s application for AACSB accreditation candidacy, the first step in the process, has been accepted.  Carl Gooding, a professor at Jacksonville State University in Alabama, has been assigned Ramapo’s mentor for the pre-accreditation phase of the project.  Gooding has served as dean of the business school at other institutions.  In addition, he has served on the AACSB board and has held a number of committee responsibilities with the association.

Ramapo College received the 2007 Silver Accolade Award for News Website from the Council for Advancement and Support Education (CASE).

SYDNEY JENKINS (CA) notes that the College art galleries are mentioned as one of the leading college art institutions in the region in the opening catalogue for the Hessel Museum of Art at Bard College.

STUDENT AND ALUMNI NEWS

DANIELA BUNA (TAS) noted that a proposal for a chapter project submitted by Ramapo College’s chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, The National Physics Honor Society, has been selected as a seminal recipient by an awards committee.

KAY FOWLER (SSHS) reports that two students, YOLANDA SCHMIDT and DORIS MILLS (Housekeeping) were awarded scholarships to attend the National Association of Death Educators and Counselors.

Three students, STEPHANIE SCHWARTZ, STEFANIE KRUKOWSKI and HOLLY BLANCK had papers accepted at the Eastern Communication Association.  This achievement, notes RUMA SEN (CA), is particularly noteworthy because the papers of all three students were accepted; the acceptance rate for student submissions this year was 35%.
