A number of Ramapo faculty will present at the 2007 Teaching Professor Conference this May in Atlanta. JOANNE M. WALSH (SSHS) will present "Diversity in Delivery;" MARSHALL S. HARTH (SSHS), VALERIE MASSIMO (SSHS), PHILIP J. MCLEWIN (SSHS), SHARON RUBIN (AIS), ROBERT SPROUL (SSHS) and TERRA VANDERGAW (CA) will present "Food for Thought: A Teaching Circle Tells All"; LYSANDRA PEREZ-STRUMOLO (SSHS) will present "Research as an Authentic and Collaborative Task in an Undergraduate Methods Course"; and REGINA CLARK (CA) will present "Empowering Students to Learn: Experiential and Reflective Approaches."

ROSETTA D’ANGELO (AIS) was a featured speaker in a session titled "Teaching Italian Language and Culture" at Showcase Italian: Pedagogical Approaches to Italian Language, Italian Studies, and Italian American Studies sponsored by the New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission Higher Education Committee held at Rutgers University.
"Postcards from Tora Bora," a film by KELLY DOLAK (CA) produced with Ramapo colleague STEPHEN JABLONSKY (CA) and professional partner Wazhmah Oman, was accepted into the Tribeca Film Festival.
NIZA FABRE (AIS) received an "Award Of Excellence For Support and Dedication to the Ramapo College Community" from the Beta Kappa Sigma Black and Latina Sorority Inc. at their first Annual Luncheon.
"Soft Targets" by SHALOM GOREWITZ (CA) was shown as part of the Rencontres Internationale in Madrid, Spain at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. This video premiered at the 2004 Faculty Exhibition at Ramapo and has recently been broadcast on the PBS Program "Reel New York" as well as part of several other European film and video festivals. The Athens Video Art Festival in Greece selected "The Shape of Emptiness," a 2006 digital video, for its festival at the "Technopolis" of the Municipal Of Athens. The professor presented "Practicing Jews: Art, Identity, and Culture" at the Conney Project’s Conference at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. There will be a retrospective exhibition of Gorewitz’ video art created from 1979-1992 at the Hopper House Gallery in Nyack, NY. Many of the works that will be shown were created with the support of the Ramapo Foundation and other career development assistance from the College.
An article in the "St. Petersburg Times" in which JILLIAN TODD WEISS (SSHS) was quoted with regard to a story involving Steve Stanton, the city manager in Largo, Florida, who was dismissed because he will be undergoing gender transition at the end of this summer was discussed on "Larry King Live." KATHY YEATON and TIM BURNS (both ASB) received a $20,000 research stipend from the IBM Center for the Business of Government. There were more than 180 applications for this highly competitive research stipend. Their winning proposal defines a "best practices framework" for the implementation of shared services across government agencies.

KATHY AUSTIN (FOUNDATION) reported that FALLON CARTWRIGHT, a junior who is an environmental sciences major presented at the Board of Governors dinner with ERIC KARLIN (TAS). Fallon has completed several summer internships and plans to become a marine biologist.
DONNA KAUDER (CAHILL CENTER) reported that student DANNY LONDON has been chosen as one of fifteen Gilder Lehrman History Scholars for 2007. The 5-week program includes a stipend of $2,200, room and board in Columbia University student housing, meetings with eminent historians, trips to archives and a research project that focuses on early African American abolitionists. Danny completed cooperative education programs at the Jewish Heritage and Van Dyck Museums in New York. She also shared that DAVID TINNEY was accepted to the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University, and is one of only ten students in the state accepted there.
KATARZYNA POTOCKA (SSHS) reported that a team of Ramapo students consisting of ADRIAN MARIES, ALEXANDRU MARIES and VIKTOR VASILEV won third place in the school rankings at the New Jersey Undergraduate Mathematics Competition held at the Garden State Undergraduate Mathematics Conference at Rowan University.
The team placed third behind firstplace Princetonand second place Rutgers. Potocka and BEN WENG (SSHS) organized the competition.
ERIC WIENER, PARAMJEET BAGGA, EMMA RAINFORTH and ASH STUART (all of TAS) and several students attended the Eastern Colleges Science Conference at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, NY. Seven research posters and talks were presented by the 11 Ramapo students who attended. One of Wiener’s research students, MEGHAN FARRELL, a graduating senior with a dual major in environmental science and biology, won the award for the best oral presentation in ecology, "Impacts of tree seedling browsing by white-tailed deer on forest dynamics in the New Jersey and New York Highlands." It was based on her independent field research project completed for TAS Research Honors. She and the professor are working on a manuscript they hope to submit for publication in a refereed journal.
