BEBA SHAMASH (CA) will give a talk and lead a discussion on the 18th century costumes on display at the Old Stone House in Ramsey at the Ramsey Library on Thursday, May 19 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The costumes will be on view at the library.  These historically accurate reproductions were researched and constructed by Shamash along with her costume design students at Ramapo.  The discussion will encompass research conducted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, patterning research from the collection at Williamsburg, VA, sewing methods used by women of the 1750s and materials used.  NANCY BOONE (HR) is president of The Ramsey Historical Association, which oversees the Old Stone House.

NIZA FABRE (AIS) presented “Culture and Society:  The Black Women of Ecuador” this past March at the African Studies, Popular Culture Association conference held in San Diego.  She also received a Special Recognition Award from the Office of Student Activities “for years of outstanding dedication and service to the Latino community.” 

Earlier this month HENRI LUSTIGER-THALER (SSHS) participated in a discussion on a presentation, “A Young Girl and Her Diary:  The Afterlife of Anne Frank,” by Jeffrey Shandler of Rutgers University.  The discussion was one of several sessions presented at “Mediating Anne Frank:  A Colloquium” held at New York University's Center for Religion and Media.

Photo: Mark SingerMARK SINGER (FA) has been re-elected as council member-at-large of the New Jersey Financial Aid Administrators Association.  Membership in the organization numbers about 450 administrators, state higher education officials and lenders involved in serving students throughout the state.

Photo of FireworksCommerce Bank Summer Concert Series - The four concerts, all on Thursdays in July, will take place at the Bandshell beginning at 8 p.m. The first concert, on July 7, will end with a fireworks display.  In case of rain, the fireworks will take place on July 14.  Admission is free; parking is $5 per car.  In addition to Commerce Bank, the series is sponsored by the Prestige Family of Dealerships, McBride Enterprises, the Friends of Ramapo and the Ramapo College Alumni Association.  In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Berrie Center.  Info:  ext. 7611.

Thursday, July 21, David Munnelly & Friends
Munnelly and the band are known for mixing traditional Irish and the jazz-based sounds and rhythms of the New York Irish dance hall music from the 1920s through 40s.

Thursday, July 28, U.S. Military Academy Band
This West Point Band first assembled in 1817 and has evolved into a 43-member band, offering the best in new and traditional concert band selections.
