April 2005

SUSAN EISNER (SAB) was selected by the Society for Advancement of Management to serve on a panel of judges for its student case competition at its annual international conference held this month.  She also was selected to serve as chair of two paper presentation sessions.  Eisner’s latest research paper, “Managing Generation Y,” was accepted for presentation at the conference (refereed) and for publication in its refereed “Proceedings.”  Another paper, “A Model for Win-Win Interviewing: The Five C's,” was published in “Management in Practice” (international, refereed) by the Society for Advancement of Management.  The professor was selected for inclusion, her third time, in Who's Who Among America's Teachers (2005, ed. 9).

SHALOM GOREWITZ (CA) screened his 2003 digital film “Constricted Light” and discussed it in relationship to Jewish mysticism at NYU's Center for Religion and Media earlier this month.  The Center seeks to develop interdisciplinary, cross-cultural knowledge of how religious ideas and practices are shaped and spread through a variety of media.  The presentation was part of a study group consisting of regional Jewish studies professors and museum workers focusing on contemporary art and the Kabbalah. Gorewitz was inspired by a passage from the “Zohar,” a central book of the Kabbalah, to create his contemplation of rhythmic motion, light, color, and energy.

The 8th edition of "Economic Issues Today," co-authored by JASON HECHT (SAB), was recently published by M.E. Sharpe.  The text analyzes 14 contemporary economic issues from three different ideological perspectives: conservative, liberal, and radical.  The text is used in both economics and interdisciplinary social sciences courses at universities and colleges. Dr. Hecht will discuss his text on Thursday, May 5 in a lecture sponsored by the Honors Program at Ramapo College.
