Alert Me Now (Emergency Notification System) / Emergency Contact Information
Unexpected emergencies can occur at anytime without warning. Ramapo College is committed to keeping your child safe. We are actively involved in developing an institution wide emergency preparedness plan. It is our goal to provide resources that would enable us to react to any type of emergency.

- Public Safety
- Environmental Health and Safety
There are many departments on campus devoted to that task. Please familiarize yourself with the services we provide. And help us make sure your student is prepared and informed of the services and procedures we have on campus.
Alert Me Now is an emergency notification system that will be used for emergency alerts and campus closings. It allows us to send messages (voice mail and text messages) to the phone numbers your student has provided. They can provide 1 number for text messages and 2 other numbers that would receive a voice message. If they chose, your number could be one of the ones they provide. The choice is theirs. Every Ramapo email address will also receive the message.
Please encourage your student to sign up for our Emergency Alert System.
Emergency Contact Information
Emergency contact information is important should you get injured or become ill while you are on campus.
It is important to decide who should be contacted in the case of an emergency.
Please enter your emergency contact information into Banner.

Environment Health and Fire Safety
Environmental Health and Safety supports the College's Strategic Plan by providing leadership and consultative services to prevent or to minimize injuries and illnesses through the identification, evaluation and control of potential hazards which may affect the institutional mission. We work together with the campus community, as well as strive to minimize college loss exposure, liability and assure a safe, healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

Public Safety (Overview and “Blue Light” Call Boxes)
The Public Safety Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Its 32 employees utilize foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols to observe and report situations or activities which may pose a danger to persons or property.
PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS ARE UNARMED AND DO NOT HAVE POLICE POWERS.
Public Safety Officers respond to all complaints as promptly as possible and, if the Officer or complainant requires local police assistance, Public Safety notifies the Mahwah Police Department. (There is a direct hotline to the Mahwah Police Department in the Public Safety Office.) Public Safety Officers have received First Aid and CPR training in addition to instruction in campus public safety procedures. The College enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Mahwah Police Department. Response to requests for assistance is very prompt.
EMERGENCY RADIOPHONES (“BLUE LIGHT” CALL BOXES) CONNECT DIRECTLY TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY.

H1N1 Flu
Your student may want to consider adding an ICE contact on their mobile phone. ICE, an acronym for “In Case of Emergency”, is entered into a mobile phone user’s address/contact book as the “In Case of Emergency” contact. ICE allows paramedics or police to be able to contact a designated relative/next-of-kin in an emergency situation.
