Financial Literacy
8/6/12-8/10/12
As reported in The Wall Street Journal, teaching financial literacy has taken on a new importance in the wake of the current economic crisis. Learning about finances at an early age is key preparation for making sound financial decisions in the future. Students learn about the importance of saving and building a credit record. Each student is assigned a specific budget and researches and reports on the lifestyle choices the budget allows. They learn the answers to these and other questions: How do you save your money? Do you want to be able to buy a car when you are 17? Do you work all summer but have no money left to show for it? Why do people use credit cards, and what are the positives and negatives of using them? You'll learn how to manage your finances for when you begin to earn your own money. And all of the skills you will learn will be taught using fun and interactive hands-on activities!

This authentic stock market trading room, complete with an electronic tickertape carrying financial data from multiple world markets, brings the experience of Wall Street and the global marketplace to your summer. When asked how you spent your summer vacation, you can answer, "My parents gave me $1,000,000 and I used it to trade on Wall Street!" Simulated trading games and competitions will have you analyzing companies, making stock recommendations, and managing a portfolio as you buy, sell and trade just like a Wall Street pro. Each of the 32 workstations in the Trading Lab is equipped with two monitors backed by the power of the Ramapo College network and the full range of software needed for simulated trading and other exciting finance-related challenges. Don't worry – you don't have to know anything about the stock market or finance to get started – you'll learn it all at Ramapo College in summer 2012!

The Princeton Review SAT Prep Course
7/16/12-7/26/12 Day Only
Ramapo College offers a summer intensive SAT Preparation program in partnership with The Princeton Review. The Program includes The Princeton Review's exclusive, enhanced curriculum course based on a comprehensive three-year study. It also includes a "Going to College" immersion program presented by admissions staff focusing on special topics related to attending college.
The SAT is the standardized test used by many colleges to help make admissions decisions on individual students (along with GPA, transcript, recommendations, co-curricular activities, and more). The Princeton Review helps prepare students for this important assessment that is reviewed by admissions officers as one measure of an individual's ability to succeed in college. High scores can also qualify students for scholarship money, so taking a prep course is a practical choice.
