Applies Only to Those Students Graduating After Summer 2006
Advisement Guide for General Education Requirements for
Continuing Ramapo Students (matriculated prior to Fall 2006)
Ramapo College is introducing a New Curriculum to strengthen the academic education you receive.
- Meet with your faculty advisor individually (or in group sessions to which you will be invited) before you register. If you haven't heard from your advisor and you have declared a major, contact your advisor right away.
- For most students, curriculum changes will be minor.
- The minimum number of credits to graduate remains the same, 128 credits.
- Continuing students can expect to graduate in the same amount of time under the new system as they had planned under the old system and with the major they declared.
- Some majors previously offered through two schools may be moving to only one school. Should your major change from one school to another, you are only required to complete the core requirements of the school with which you originally affiliated. You may, of course, complete requirements from the new school if you wish.

Why Ramapo Created the New Curriculum Enhancement Plan
“The better the curriculum, the greater the value of the degree, both in terms of what you gain from the content of the curriculum and, externally, in terms of how the degree is regarded within the larger community,” said Martha Ecker, vice provost for curriculum and global affairs.
The New Curriculum (also called the Curriculum Enhancement Plan) will strengthen Ramapo’s already considerable reputation as a high-quality college offering programs in liberal arts and professional studies. In particular, it will:
- produce a more consistently rigorous set of courses in General Education and the majors,
- reinforce the four pillars of our mission (international, interdisciplinary, intercultural, and experiential education),
- create a teaching-and-learning environment appropriate for a first-rate residential liberal arts college,
- enhance connections between the liberal arts and professional programs, and
- continue to attract outstanding faculty and students to the institution.
