REQUIREMENTS OF THE MAJOR
PREREQUISITE:
CMUS 101 Introduction to Music 3 crs.
CMUS 123 Foundations of Music 3 crs.
CMUS 210 Basic Music Theory 3 crs.
CMUS 322 Electronic and Computer Music 3 crs.
Two Music in Culture electives* (200 level) 6 crs.
Two performance courses** 6 crs.
Three upper level (300/400) electives***
(can include independent study)
9-12 crs.

Minimum: 33-36 crs.
 
*Examples of music in culture electives: History of Jazz, The Black Experience Through Music, Music in the Theater, Music Technology and Media, Music in our Time, Music and Dance/African Diaspora, History of Rock and Roll.
**Examples of performance or skills courses electives: Gospel Chorus, Music Performance, Jazz Improvisation. A composition course such as: Song Writing or Applied Music I and II may be substituted for one performance course.
***Examples of upper level electives: Arts Management-Music, Sound Recording, Electronic and Computer Music

Upper Level Core**
 
Two upper-level (300/400) Contemporary Arts courses designated CA Upper Level Core 6-8 crs.

Core Credits: 15-20 crs.

**Courses taken to fulfill the upper level core cannot be counted in the major
