With colorful costumes, driving music, and breathtaking capoeira martial arts dance, Ologundê celebrates the rich Afro-Brazilian culture of Bahia.

Native Brit Graham Parker’s musical style influenced the likes of Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson.  Now, decades into a storied career in rock, that began with his band, The Rumor, he’s at the top of his game.  He is joined by critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Garland Jeffreys, whose intelligent and passionate songs have earned him the respect of such musical peers such as Bruce Springsteen and Lou Reed.

Faye Lane’s Beauty Shop Stories

Faye Lane’s Beauty Shop Stories are the glittered-up memories of a Texas Green Bean Queen in bedazzling story and song!  Winner of the 2011 MAC Award, the 2011 Bistro Award for Musical Comedy, NY and L.A. Moth Awards, among others and broadcasts on NPR, it is, “The hottest, sweetest, funniest, award winning show. - The Villager.

New York Magazine proclaims, “They were howling, crying, falling in love with her.”

Special Faye Lane Workshop: Write Your Own Story

In this candid, interactive and inspiring workshop, Faye Lane explores “stories” women have been told in various eras and regions of the country and how these stories shape women’s lives. How do stories affect our body image – as a child and throughout our lives? Participants are encouraged to tell their own extraordinary stories and think about ways to rewrite their own stories to create the life they want.

Ellis Island

Bring Your Students to Ramapo College and Watch Your Classroom Studies Come to Life on the Sharp Theater Stage. All performances are linked to New Jersey Core Curriculum Standards.  Study Guides are provided two weeks before each program.

Based on a collection of oral histories given by immigrants who actually passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1924, this play brings these tales of immigration to life through superb acting and authentic period costumes.

Three immigrant characters of different nationalities and an immigration inspector tell about the hardships of coming to America, the intimidating experience of their processing on Ellis Island, and the challenges of their lives in the “New World.” 

The play emphasizes the human dimension of the immigration experience and fosters appreciation of other cultures. Recommended for Grades 4-12

Don’t Tell Me.  Paula Poundstone is famous for her razor-sharp wit and spontaneity that has audience members at her live shows complaining that their cheeks hurt from laughter and debating whether the random people she talked to were "plants."

The Glass Castle, the best selling memoir of survival and resiliency told through the eyes of a young girl, is brought to life by a professional actor in this American Place Theatre verbatim adaptation.  The one-hour performance also features pre- and post-show discussions.
