Government Grant Awards to Ramapo College
Jean Balutanski, director of disabilities education at the Meadowlands Environment Center (MEC) received a National Science Foundation grant for her project, "MarshAccess." Funding of
$852,276 over three years will allow Ms. Balutanski to create an array of accessibility programs at the MEC, test them, and share results with peers. Collaborators on this project are Angela Cristini and Victoria Madden.
Kathleen Burke, assistant dean of the Nursing Program received $90,000 from the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education for a summer nursing camp. The goals of the program are to increase the retention and graduation rates of nursing students.
Lawrence D'Antonio, professor of math and Carol Frishberg, professor of chemistry received $409,720 to implement the National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Scholarship program.
The program provides scholarship and support services for teacher education students specializing in math and science who spend the first two years of their teaching career in a high-needs district.
Michael Edelstein professor of psychology received $74,900 from the Board of Public Utilities to study clean energy practices.
Jane Stein, Berrie Center director was awarded a multi-year general program support grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The amount of funding awarded in 2006-2007 was$32,222 which was used for artists' fees and marketing efforts in the Berrie Center.
