RE: Pillars Task Forces' Reports and Student Learning Outcomes for General Education
Date: 18 April 2007
TODAY
An open meeting on the final Pillars Task Force Reports (Experiential Learning, Intercultural Understanding, Interdisciplinary Curriculum and International Education) will be held today, April 18 from 10-11 in the York Room. Additional discussion on the first draft of the General Education Goals and Objectives will also occur. All are invited to attend.
Copies of all reports are located here on the Provost web site. Anyone unable to attend this meeting may provide written feedback to bbarnett@ramapo.edu. Please send your comments by Monday 21 May 2007. I encourage all members of the community to join this discussion.
THANKS
I thank all participants of the Pillars Task Forces (members are listed on each Report). Their charge required much effort over a short period of time. Each Task Force has completed a report and, through these reports, greatly contributed to the College's progress on identifying student learning outcomes which is a foundation of high quality education. I thank each member of these Task Forces for their hard work and their service to the College.
I also thank the members of ARC for their draft report on Goals and Objectives for General Education. This is a time intensive committee in the best of times. Implementing a new curriculum and revising individual courses has added to their work load. Still, ARC has managed to forward this draft report. The members of ARC have demonstrated real dedication to the curriculum and to the College. I appreciate their efforts on behalf of our students.
NEXT
A Task Force on Student Learning Outcomes will meet across the summer. This group will sort and align, parse and integrate the learning outcomes from the previous task forces. The product of this Task Force will be the overall list of student learning outcomes (what we strive to have all Ramapo College graduates know and be able to do).
Membership on the Task Force on Student Learning Outcomes will consist of one representative from each of the Pillars Task Forces, a representative from ARC, one representative from each of the schools and the library (selection to be done through ECFA), and one representative from the Cahill Center. Members must be available to meet across the summer.
