A delightful look at the programs at the garden!
The garden links learning about sustainable food and nutrition to food growing in an active way. It enables students and teachers to translate sustainable food practices and nutrition information into every day knowledge and actions that can be incorporated into their lives. In addition to learning about sustainable food and nutrition, students are given first hand experience of how food actually grows.
The educational programs at the Havemeyer Edible Garden are entirely run by volunteers using an academic theory based curriculum developed by Jackie Ehlert-Mercer, a registered dietitian with the support of other professionals.
The garden is entirely cared for by volunteers and the classes and other programs are made possible through the generous donations of individuals in the community.
