Who: The Office of International Education is pleased to announce a Faculty-led U.S. Global Seminar.
What: “Geography of the American West” (ENST 320)
When: July 30-August 26, 2007.
Content Description:
This course explores the varied physical, cultural, and regional landscapes of western North America. Major themes include diverse geologic features, American Indian cultures, forest and water resources, rural and urban landscapes, and historical museums.
Places Visited:
Mt. Rainier, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Crater Lake, Redwood National Parks, Craters of the Moon National Monument, Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Area, and other natural sites including Oregon Dunes, the Columbia River Gorge, and various national forests. Large and small cities in Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and California will also be visited, as well as industrial sites (including mining, hydroelectric and logging sites) and Native American reservations.
Accommodations:
Participants will stay at campgrounds at most locations. Each location is explored by driving, hiking, and/or boating.
General Education Requirements:
This program fulfills the 'Intercultural North America' category of the General Education program.
Costs/Price:
$4,100.00 which includes tuition, lodging, food, all excursions and entrance fees. Airfare to Portland, Oregon not included.
