Areas Served
In order to be a part of the Ramapo College Upward Bound program, a student must

1. Attend one of the following New Jersey schools in Paterson or Newark:

In Paterson:       
John F. Kennedy H.S.
East Side H.S.
Rosa Parks H.S.
In Newark:
Westside H.S.
Malcolm X. Shabazz H.S.               
Barringer H.S.

2. Have U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or be applying for permanent residency.
3. Must not have a parent with a Bachelor's Degree.
4. Family income of not more than 150% of the federally determined poverty level

•  Ramapo College is funded to accept a total of fifty-five (55) students into the program. Approximately twenty (20) new students are admitted each year.

Program Support

U.S. Department of Education- approximately 800 Upward Bound program and 100 Upward Bound Math/Science programs throughout the country

New Jersey Commission on Higher Education- 10 College Bound programs throughout the State for students from the 30 Abbott School Districts

Successes

As of June 2004

• 169 Students have participated in our program
• Approximately 70% have gone to college
• Approximately 5% have already completed their bachelors degree
• A few of our first graduates are now applying to graduate school!

"The RCUBMS program is 64% federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education at a total annual amount of 255,743.00 for 51 students served per funding year."
