A. No.

Q. When can I enter the program?
A. At the beginning of the Fall or Spring semester or for the Summer session. Download Application or call 201-684-7709 for information and an application.

Q. Do I need a minimum undergraduate GPA?
A. A 3.00 GPA is the program standard, but exceptions are made for students who consult with the director and enroll as provisional students, maintaining a 3.00 for the first two courses in the program.

Q. Do I need to maintain a minimum GPA in the program?
A. A 3.00 is needed for graduation.

Q. How many classes are offered in the Summer?
A. One class is offered, at night, early in the summer.

Q. How long does it take to complete the program? When are classes held?
A. It usually takes 2 to 4 years to complete the program; all classes are in the evening, 6 - 8:30pm.

Q. How many courses can I take per semester?
A. Two are recommended; special permission is needed to take more than two.

Q. What is the cost per semester hour for NJ residents? For non-residents?
A. The 2004 Fall tuition is per semester hour $385.70 for residents and $495.75 for non-residents.

Q. What subjects are covered in the program?
A. As an interdisciplinary, multi-cultural program, the broad themes in MALS include art, film, history, literature, music, philosophy, politics, popular culture, psychology, sociology, science, and religious studies.

Q. What will MALS do for my career?
A. Teachers, business people, professionals, anyone with a desire to learn more about the ideas that formed our global community will find that MALS gives them a broad interdisciplinary outlook and enriches their knowledge of many cultures and their interrelationships. A liberal arts backround has always been valuable in any career because it increases understanding of the world, enhances communication, analytical, and verbal skills, and sharpens writing ability.

Q. Is a thesis necessary?
A. A Capstone Graduation Project may include a thesis or a project of an artistic or theatrical nature. Students work with a faculty mentor who helps them through their final project. All project proposals must be approved at the inception by the director.

Q. Are there exams in the courses?
A. A final paper to be submitted at the end of semester or session substitutes in almost all cases for an exam.
