Requirements for Graduation With College Honors

If you plan to graduate with College Honors, you must complete a six-credit senior thesis or project that demonstrates significant artistic/intellectual achievement, research monographs, screenplays, and art installations are acceptable options to fulfill this requirement. In addition, you are required to take three H-option courses in areas related to your major.

At the time of graduation, you are required to have a minimum 3.5 GPA.

H-Options

H-Option courses are those in which you, in consultation with a faculty member, plan supplementary or alternative in-depth work. The H-Option is not an add-on to course requirements, but requires you to perform more extensively and intensively.

The number of H-Option courses required for graduation with College Honors varies from two (if you transfer in honors courses) to three (if all your honors courses are from Ramapo College).

One H-Option course may be at the 200-level, but the others must be at the 300 or 400-level. We encourage you to make experiential education (CO-OP, internships, service-learning or, field work) a component of one of your H-Option courses.

Choosing An H-Option Course

During the first four weeks of the semester, you will consider which one of your courses you would like to designate as an H-Option. You then complete an H-Option contract with the course instructor. At the end of the semester, if you successfully complete the honors work and receive a grade of A, you will be awarded an H+ grade; an A- will be awarded an H. Grades of B+ or less will result in regular course credit, and will not count as an Honors Option.

The H-Option Contract Provides:

  • A description of the work you will be completing
  • A description of how you will be evaluated
  • An explanation of how often you and your faculty member will consult on your work

The Honors Project

The Honors project is the culmination of your honors work at the College. You will choose a faculty member during the second semester of your junior year and plan two semesters of work you will do to complete it. Two additional evaluators will be assigned to your project, so that you receive ample feedback. Your project is then undertaken in your senior year as an independent study under the guidance of your faculty member. You will earn one to four credits for the completion of the proposal and an additional four credits for the completion of the project.

His research convincingly  argued that this event was a catalyst for the modern historic preservation movement.”
